The FootHills’ design standards are anything but standard. They’re innovative and industry leading. They raise the bar on sustainable living. Here are a few of our guidelines inspired by highly acclaimed programs around the world like the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) and the Built Green rating systems.
- Homes will meet or exceed an EnerGuide rating of 85, some of the highest ratings in the province. Smart home design and efficient energy options will give residents the home of their dreams with less impact on the environment and the pocketbook.
- On several lots 75% or more of the natural habitat is protected. Residents can enjoy the land without the cost of maintaining it.
- Geoexchange ground source heat pumps will be installed. This energy-efficient source harnesses the earth’s natural thermal energy to heat and cool homes, passing along a tremendous cost-savings to home owners.
- Sustainable/natural materials and colors are encouraged. Muted tones and natural colour schemes suit the park environment, and wise choices of materials help protect it.
